Rick Fedrizzi/USGBC says thank you to the Credential Holders:

Reclaimed barn wood is one form of reusing that interior designers seem to love. A quick search on google pulls up images of dining room tables, garage doors, flooring, cabinets and more made from this beautiful and functional material. Not all projects using reclaimed barn wood need to involve a remodel or new project. As an example check out this headboard – made in an afternoon:

Reclaimed Barn Wood Headboard

From our very own USGBC Wyoming member Meagan - check out more photos of this headboard on her blog - the egg. theeggoutwest.blogspot.com

In addition to barn wood Wyoming is also home to hundreds of miles of snowfenceing. Centennial Woods out of Laramie, Wyoming turns these old fences into beautiful reclaimed wood similar to barn wood.

What other uses and/or sources do you see out there for barn wood?

If you’re not familiar with how to participate in a Twitter conversation like this, we’ve made a short video to help out:

This March the USGBC Wyoming Chapter hosted their second build day with Habitat for Humanity of the Greater Teton Area. USGBC members, friends, community volunteers and volunteers from the Knights of Columbus teamed up to put the finishing touches on 5 Habitat homes located in east Jackson. The five homes are part of a 12 home affordable neighborhood. The homes are going for LEED certification. With the blower door test complete and passed Trace Wright, Habitat’s construction manager, is hoping the homes will earn LEED Silver Certification.

March 24th was our second build day on this project. In October the USGBC Wyoming Chapter hosted it’s first build day with Habitat. In October volunteers worked on framing, insulation and sheetrock. If you are interested in participating or organizing a build day with Habitat in your town there are eight Habitat affiliates in Wyoming including: Cheyenne, Cody, Gillette, Jackson, Laramie, Mills, Riverton and Sheridan. Contact your local affiliate and see what is happening with affordable homes and sustainable building in your town and find out how you can get involved.

Both service days were put on by the Emerging Professionals Committee of the USGBC Wyoming Chapter.

Thanks to Habitat for helping coordinate the build days and for this certificate of recognition for our service.
